Are you guilty of leaving a muddy bike for days without washing it? If so, you should not be discouraged. We created this guide to help people with cleaning even the dirtiest of dirt bikes. At Cycles of Jacksonville, you can find a wide selection of dirt bikes to fit your needs at our location in Jacksonville, Florida, serving St. Augustine and Orlando, Florida.

Preparing to Clean

Before you can even get water anywhere near your bike, make sure to prepare it for the upcoming cleaning. Cover the exhaust, preferably after wiping off the oil residue. You will also need to pull out the air filter and use a cover to seal the air inlet against moisture.

Prewash

Once you have the exhaust covered, you can hose off the entire length of your bike. You want to wet all of the caked-on mud as much as possible. Take at least ten minutes to let the water soak through any remaining dirt.

First Wash

For the first wash, use a standard jet washer. You should start under the mudguards and work your way to any buildup on the exhaust. If you start on one side of the bike, you can steadily work your way to all parts in a few minutes.

You should never focus the sprayer too much on any one spot. Instead, use a broad spray motion to focus attention on large areas at a time.

Take care not to neglect the underside. Once you have your dirt bike carefully laid on its side, spray and sponge off all the hidden mud and dirt.

Final Wash and Rinse

The last wash is where you should use your dirt bike-specific cleaning solution. Use the same broad spray method to cover all areas on the bike with the cleaning liquid. The chain and sprockets might need a different cleaning product to get them clean. Leave both to sit on the bike and work their magic.

To finish up the cleaning, you will take a sponge to the tank, seat, and plastic areas on the bike. After a proper pressure washing, where you work from top to bottom, you can let it drip dry. Keep your dirt bike running smoothly by lubricating the chain and letting the engine run to dry it off for good.

Do you have a dirt bike in desperate need of cleaning? We hope that our guide has offered you the best tips to returning it to a better, mud-free state.
