How to Pack your ATV for Your Next Trip
ATVs are one of the most popular recreational vehicles out there, and it’s not common for families to load them up for a fun vacation. However, not everybody knows how to correctly transport one of these vehicles. To help, we here at Cycles of Jacksonville have written up a helpful guide! However, if you’re still looking for your perfect ATV for that upcoming vacation, feel free to stop by our dealership in Jacksonville, Florida to see our amazing inventory.
Towing Vehicle
Before you plan to load up your ATV you’ll need to read your owner's manual. This contains important information, like how much your vehicle weighs. If you plan on transporting your ATV you’ll need a tow vehicle that can handle the weight of your luggage, passengers, and your ATV. If your model is on the smaller size a good-sized pickup could easily perform this task. However, if you’ve got a larger ATV you may be interested in renting something like a toy hauler that can carry everything on one big rig
Tools
Before you try loading your vehicle, you’ll need a few tools to make sure you’re transporting everything safely. Since it’s likely your ATV isn’t small enough to fit in the bed of your pickup, much less the trunk of your car, the first tool you’ll need is a trailer. Whether you want to rent or buy, use a utility or an open bed, it doesn’t matter much to us. However, we do want to dissuade you from towing your ATV as it’s very likely you’ll damage it after a couple of miles.
Other tools you’ll need include wheel chocks and tie-downs. Both these tools should keep your ATV from moving or getting damaged. If your trailer or vehicle doesn’t have tie-down anchors we suggest buying a few. They’re relatively cheap, easy to install, and are helpful for transporting a number of items.
Packing
If you’re traveling in a car or truck with your ATV remember to keep a close eye on its weight capacities. While you don’t want to skimp on the essentials, you also don’t want to damage your vehicle by overloading it. However, be sure to bring an emergency kit for when you’re out on the road. This should include essential items such as food, water, and blankets. You’ll also want to pack a full first aid kit in case you fall from your ATV, or there is an emergency. Lastly, bring a few tools along that can help you complete emergency repairs in case your ATV breaks down suddenly.
Now that you’re prepped and ready to go, all you need is a new ATV for your upcoming trip! We here at Cycles of Jacksonville pride ourselves on our high-quality products and excellent customer service.
