Before you take your new scooter on your very first ride together, we want to encourage you to read over our article below. In it, we’ve listed a number of important accessories that are detrimental to both your safety and the safety of your new vehicle. For more tips on scooter safety or advice on purchasing scooter equipment, feel free to visit us here at Cycles of Jacksonville.

Anti-Theft Lock

Because scooters are relatively lightweight and high-quality vehicles, they’re a popular target among thieves. Thankfully, theft is easily dissuaded when you equip your scooter with a helpful anti-theft lock. While there are many options available for sale—including chain, cable, folding, disc, grip, and U-locks— we recommend purchasing at least two different types of locks to place on your scooter. If a thief is able to remove one of the locks from your scooter while you’re away, they likely won't have the time or necessary tools to break the second one.

Helmet

Even if a helmet isn’t a required accessory to ride a scooter in your state, we strongly encourage you to purchase one anyway. Scooters provide no protection from spills or collisions, and a helmet may be your only line of defense against a serious head injury. When shopping for your helmet, we recommend purchasing a model approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation that also includes some helpful eye protection, in case you need to drive in rain or high winds.

Protective Gear and Clothing

If you’re relatively new to riding a scooter, it may be a wise idea to invest in some helpful knee and elbow pads to protect you from any spills, slips, or falls as you learn to control your vehicle. However, even if you’re a riding expert, it’s always a good idea to wear some sort of protective clothing when riding your scooter. This can be as simple as purchasing a durable leather jacket and close-toed shoes to ensure you won’t scrape or tear your skin during an accident.
