ATVs are designed for adventure and have the ability to travel easily in off-road conditions. Many riders enjoy this element of these vehicles the most and participate in many off-road activities. Beyond hitting the trail, there are a handful of exciting activities you can enjoy with your ATV.

1. Rock Crawling

Taking your ATV over rocks and boulders is known as rock crawling. It’s a thrilling activity that can test your skills and the performance of your vehicle.

Skill level: This activity is not beginner friendly. You should have the right skillset, strength, and experience to partake in rock crawling.

Vehicle upgrades: Although a standard ATV may be able to successfully handle rock crawling, there are some upgrades that can make it easier. You might consider adding:

  • A lift kit
  • Larger tires
  • Better bumpers
  • Rock sliders
  • Differential covers

2. Dune Bashing

Dune bashing is kind of like riding on the dunes, except you ride up and down the dune until you’re too exhausted to keep riding!

Skill level: This activity should be left for advanced riders. Sand shifts and changes underneath the vehicle, so the rider needs to know how to prevent rollover and getting stuck.

Vehicle upgrades: There are a few upgrades you’ll want to make if you’d like to participate in dune bashing. You should add:

  • A roll cage
  • Sand-specific tires

3. Green Laning

Green laning is riding your ATV on paths that aren’t maintained or frequently traveled on. Usually this activity takes place in the forest or along unsurfaced trails.

Skill level: All levels of riders can enjoy green laning with the right precautions. Most trails won’t have too many obstacles or rough terrain, but it’s important to stay hyper-aware of your surroundings.

Vehicle upgrades: Although you don’t need to make any upgrades because your ATV is designed for this type of riding, you should pack a toolkit and first aid kit in case of any unexpected situations.

Mudding

Probably the most popular ATV activity is mudding. This is when you take your vehicle into especially muddy areas and ride right through the puddles!

Skill level: Most riders are able to go mudding, as long as they feel comfortable riding in that environment. However, it is important to know how to get your ATV unstuck and also be cautious about the conditions. You don’t want to plow into a puddle and find out it’s too deep or there is an obstacle hiding below!

Vehicle upgrades: There are a few accessories you should add if you want to take your ATV mudding. Things that will protect your vehicle include:

  • Snorkel kit
  • Larger tires
  • Mudguard
