Florida State Forest Rules For ATVs
On a more sober note, here are a few things to keep in mind before you embark on your thrilling ATV adventure. OHV permits are required for all ATVs operating in state forests. You may purchase these at the trailhead gatehouses or offices of the forest you’re entering. You must tow your four wheeler to the staging area of the park and then drive it at a low speed to the trail. Off-road vehicle riders are expected to obey all traffic signs and laws. The speed limit in Florida state forests is 30 mph. Sound levels must be limited to 96 db(A) and all quads must have spark arrestors that are approved by the Forest Service.
A Must-Do List For ATV Riding
Here’s a checklist to ensure your safety and well-being when riding an ATV. Wear a helmet, long pants and sleeves, gloves and sturdy boots. For obvious reasons, alcohol and recreational drugs (even prescription drugs that affect focus and reflexes) are a big NO. Drive responsibly and watch out for animals, hikers and campers on the trail. Don’t go off designated trail areas, ride only during daylight hours and in good weather conditions, don’t harm wildlife, and supervise children operating ATVs. Pack up all your waste that cannot be disposed of, pick up any trash you see (even if it doesn’t belong to you) and make sure that you clean your ATV before and after you ride in a state forest to prevent the spread of invasive species.
