If you’ve ever washed a motorcycle before, you know that it isn’t always as easy as it looks. Not only can it take quite a while, but you have to be careful not to get certain components wet or soapy. To help speed up the process, and ensure you’re caring for all of your equipment correctly, we’ve written up a few helpful motorcycle cleaning tips below.

Avoid the Sun

While you may think it’s a good idea to clean your motorcycle out in the sun so it can dry more quickly, this is actually a surefire way to end up with soapy streaks all over your paint job. Instead, pick a shady spot to wash your bike, so you have plenty of time to rinse away the suds as you clean. Once your model has been thoroughly cleaned, make sure to dry it with soft towels or even a leaf blower to ensure it’s completely dried. Once again, do your best to avoid the sun, as long periods of time under UV rays could damage some of your model’s more sensitive components.

Wash Top to Bottom

To avoid having to go back and re-wash components you’ve already scrubbed, be sure to always wash your motorcycle from top to bottom. This way if you clean an exceptionally dirty part, you won’t have to go back and re-do an entire section of your motorcycle’s body.

Gather Necessary Products

You’re going to need a lot more than just motorcycle soap and a sponge to clean your vehicle. If your motorcycle has leather components, you’ll need to make sure that you also have a leather cleanser and conditioner on hand to properly care for them. We also recommend purchasing some helpful lube for your chain, as this sensitive component is often stripped of important grease during your wash. Finally, don’t forget to purchase some motorcycle wax and polish to help protect your paint job.

Is your motorcycle beginning to look a bit worse for wear, even after a good scrubbing? Then it may be time to trade in your old model for an upgrade.
