The Right ATV Riding Gear
Kicking up dirt, splashing through mud, blazing trails through the woods, and riding the dunes—what do all these have in common? They’re the most fun when you’re riding an ATV, of course! But if you want to ride right, you need the right gear. We here at Cycles of Jacksonville want to help you have fun and stay safe, so we’ve put together some tips on the riding gear you’ll need. To learn more, or to see the ATVs we have for sale, contact our store in Jacksonville, Florida, today!
Helmet
Like with any recreational riding, the most important piece of gear is a helmet. You ‘re going to need something that is well fitted, comfortable, and has a high crash-test rating. It’s there to keep your head safe, after all, so it has to stay stable, not constrict blood flow, and—most importantly—it has to actually protect you. You should also invest in one that’s designed for extreme sports. Keep in mind that a helmet isn’t good forever and can’t handle many impacts, so try to replace it after any impact event or after every five years, whichever comes first.
Goggles
Your eyes need their own dedicated protection. Unless the helmet you get has a visor, you’re going to need a good pair of goggles. That’s important—eye protection is more than just crash injury prevention. It prevents airborne debris, sand, drt, precipitation, and even bugs from hitting your eyes and blinding you at crucial moments. Make sure to get a pair that fits well with your helmet. You might even consider investing in a pair that has UV protection or anti-fogging capabilities for an extra dash of safety.
Boots
Never try to operate your ATV in sandals or tennis shoes—always wear a good pair of riding boots. They tend to go above the ankle, which offers good joint protection, and they’re designed with good tread to keep your feet where you want them. Just remember to break them in before you go on your first ride with them.
Jackets And Riding Suits
Finally, you’re going to want to wear something to protect your body a little better. A jacket will give your torso an extra layer of cushion and shielding from debris and the ground, while a riding suit will cover you from ankles to neck to wrists. Just make sure it fits well—too tight and it restricts your movement, but too loose and it’s bulky and in the way. It’ll probably be worn over street clothes, so take that into account when you’re sizing.
