Tips for Cleaning Your UTV
It’s no surprise that UTVs get dirty quickly! They’re built to tackle rough terrain and complete a variety of tasks. Whether you use your utility terrain vehicle around your property or on the trails, keeping it clean will increase its lifespan and give you pride as an owner.
Where to Clean and How to Prep
The first step to cleaning your UTV is finding the right place to clean it. The muck and grime that builds up on the exterior of your vehicle can carry seeds and pollen from the locations you were visiting. So, when you wash off everything that’s built up, it’s important that you choose a location that has proper drainage and won’t drain into your yard.
To prepare your UTV for cleaning, you may need to soak the mud covered areas. Along with a soak you can use a plastic scraper to remove large chunks of mud before scrubbing.
Essential Tools for Cleaning
The easiest way to wash your UTV is with a pressure washer. They are powerful enough to clear away stuck-on grime, especially after you’ve soaked and scraped away the large buildups of muck.
If you don’t have a pressure washer, a garden hose with the appropriate nozzle can do the job as well. The main goal is to rinse away the layers of buildup.
Once you’ve washed away the grime, you’ll need a sponge and soap to finish the cleaning process. You’ll want to focus on scrubbing from the handlebars to the tires! In certain areas that are harder to reach, you may want a brush and in some cases you may need to use a degreaser to really clean up your ride.
Dry & Polish
After checking that every area of your UTV is clean, it’s time to let it dry. Ideally the weather will be nice enough to allow it to air dry, but if it isn’t, you may need to use a towel or air compressor to speed up the drying process.
The final step, which should be completed one or two times a year, is polishing your UTV. Make sure to select a product that complements your model’s materials! Read the instructions carefully and avoid getting polish on the interior.
As much fun as it is to get your UTV dirty, it’s important to maintain some level of cleanliness, too!
