Aprilia History

Founded shortly after the end of World War II by Cavaliere Alberto Beggio as a bicycle production company in Noale, Italy, it wasn’t until Alberto’s son, Ivano Beggio, took over the company in 1968 that they produced their first 50cc motorcycle. These mopeds were a hit, and soon Aprilia was producing motocross bikes as well. This led to success in the 70s in the Italian motocross championships. They continued this trend into the 80s and emerged in the 90s with new road bikes derived from their experience with off-road mechanics. Aprilia also found success with scooters at this time, tapping into an already established market.

 

As the millennial approached, Aprilia went all-in on a more powerful motorcycle that would become its flagship model; the RSV Mille, with a 1000cc V-Twin engine that put it in the superbike category.
